Rarely has a team been so thankful to welcome a new year. The Nets could not say goodbye to 2010 fast enough.

The year contained 3 1/2 months of the worst season in franchise history and then a 9-24 start to 2010-11. So in the calendar year, the Nets compiled an 18-65 record, including Friday's New Year's Eve defeat in Chicago. They hope to get 2011 off on better footing Saturday at Minnesota.

"It's difficult. January 1 last year was tough all the way up until April," guard Devin Harris said of the dreadful calendar year. "We're struggling now, but we're playing better. But it's still not accounting for more wins. It's tough all the way through."

And so the Nets try to empower themselves with a "better days ahead" scenario.
