The Lakers still are confident they are championship contenders despite exiting the 2011 playoffs in a second-round sweep. So they are entering the NBA draft with tempered expectations about how much help they can get from anyone so young.

The Lakers have no first-round draft pick (and thus no expected guaranteed contract with a first-round pick), sending it out along with Sasha Vujacic in a Dec. 15 trade to save money. The Lakers do have four second-round picks (with no guaranteed contracts there) and will hope to beat the market there.

The Lakers have picks at 41, 46, 56 and 58 overall. They also have some history of success in the second round under general manager Mitch Kupchak, landing Luke Walton in 2003, Ronny Turiaf in 2005, Marc Gasol in 2007 and Devin Ebanks and...
