Danny Granger got a serious wakeup call while serving as a member of Team USA's gold-medal-winning team at the FIBA World Championship. Granger might be one of the premier scorers in the NBA, but that didn't mean anything when he played alongside players just as good as or better than him.

Granger played in only seven of the team's nine games and averaged just 4.1 points, which was second-lowest on the team.

The reason behind the lack of playing time for Granger?

Defense.

Granger's inability to defend at a high enough of level for USA coach Mike Krzyzewski cost him a spot in the rotation. Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala and Memphis' Rudy Gay played ahead of Granger.

Granger was considered a good defender when the Pacers picked him with the No.

There may be teams around the league ready to roll over for the much ballyhooed Miami Heat on their way to the NBA title this season.
The Magic certainly is not one of them.
If this summer's name-calling is any indication, the Florida rivalry that has been simmering for 20 years could grow into one of the league's best, most heated rivalries this season.
It's the first time both teams are serious contenders at the same time, and the feud between Magic coach Stan Van Gundy and his former boss, Heat president Pat Riley, is really getting interesting.
It started with Van Gundy and Magic general manager Otis Smith poking fun at LeBron James and Chris Bosh for joining Dwyane Wade in Miami.

USA Basketball suffered through a number of failures during the last decade, but Derrick Rose and friends got it right the first time.
The Bulls guard helped capture a gold medal at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Behind a star performance by Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant, the U.S. went undefeated at the tournament and earned an automatic spot in the 2012 London Olympics. The team featured no players from the 2008 Olympic squad.
"Everybody that played here, this is something that you will remember for the rest of your life," Rose said after the championship victory over Turkey. "Everybody here appreciates it and they're grateful for it." In the days before the World Championship, it looked as though Rose might play third fiddle at point guard behind...

As long as Tony Parker does not sign an extension, the question that likely won't die throughout the 2010-11 season is this: Where will San Antonio's point guard call home after this season?
Entering the final year of his contract, there continues to be plenty of speculation that Parker could be playing his final season with the only team he has ever known.

Will there be enough money left for Parker to also sign a lucrative deal to remain in San Antonio? Or, as some speculate, does Parker prefer to move on, notably to New York, where Amar'e Stoudemire is already on board and Denver Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony, who can also be a free agent next...
