Pistons Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Last year's lottery pick, Greg Monroe, never worked out for the Pistons before the draft because he was expected to go higher than No. 7 overall. A similar scenario unfolded in this year's draft as Kentucky point guard Brandon Knight surprisingly fell to the Pistons at No. 8 after a run on big men.

That gives the Pistons a new floor leader and increases the possibility that 2010-11 leading scorer and restricted free agent Rodney Stuckey will not return.

Knight, who spoke with the Pistons at the Chicago predraft camp but didn't work out in Detroit, was expected to go as high as No. 3 to Utah. Engaged in serious talks with two teams in front of them and four behind them to move the pick, the Pistons ultimately stood pat and wound up with another option in a crowded...

Raptors Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

The Raptors are going to be far more reactive than proactive in the NBA draft, given their No. 5 slot and the varying needs of a franchise coming off a 22-win season.

They have needs at point guard, center and small forward and have narrowed a list of possibilities down to about five.

The trouble is, they can't read what may happen with the first four selections, and that's added some extra work to the process.

The two point guards who have caught their eye—Kentucky's Brandon Knight and Connecticut's Kemba Walker—may be gone by the time the Raptors get around to choosing, so they've taken a long hard look at the likes of small forward Kawhi Leonard and the group of European big men that's headed by Jan Vesely of the Czech Republic.

Lakers Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Posted on | Saturday, June 18, 2011 | No Comments

The Lakers still are confident they are championship contenders despite exiting the 2011 playoffs in a second-round sweep. So they are entering the NBA draft with tempered expectations about how much help they can get from anyone so young.

The Lakers have no first-round draft pick (and thus no expected guaranteed contract with a first-round pick), sending it out along with Sasha Vujacic in a Dec. 15 trade to save money. The Lakers do have four second-round picks (with no guaranteed contracts there) and will hope to beat the market there.

The Lakers have picks at 41, 46, 56 and 58 overall. They also have some history of success in the second round under general manager Mitch Kupchak, landing Luke Walton in 2003, Ronny Turiaf in 2005, Marc Gasol in 2007 and Devin Ebanks and...

Arizona forward Derrick Williams and Turkish center Enes Kanter came to Minneapolis a week before the NBA draft for separate workouts and each declared himself the draft's best player to a Timberwolves team that owns the second overall pick.

One of them must be wrong.

The Wolves worked out Kanter in the morning against other prospects, including a 7-foot center, and then drilled Williams in an afternoon session on his perimeter skills against a group of guards.

Afterward, Wolves assistant general manager Tony Ronzone called Kanter an "option" for that second overall pick if Cleveland indeed does select Duke point guard Kyrie Irving with the first pick.

He also praised Williams' ball-handling skills, which he said are impressive for a combo forward who...

It's hard to tell which category is more intriguing, the actual trade possibilities or the rumored trades, and there are plenty of the latter.
