The Nets acquired some valuable insurance in case rookie Derrick Favors needs time to develop at power forward.
And, on top of that, they got a Jersey guy.
Troy Murphy, a nine-year veteran, was acquired from Indiana in the four-team deal Aug. 11 that also included New Orleans and Houston. The only player the Nets gave up was starting shooting guard Courtney Lee, who went to the Rockets.
Murphy is a solid pickup for several reasons.
First, he can play a little bit. He averaged 13.3 points and 9.2 rebounds in his three-plus seasons with the Pacers and can shoot a 3-pointer as well as bang underneath.
