Slumps late in the season by the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks brought the second and third seeds in the Western Conference into play for the surging Thunder. But in the end, Oklahoma City (55-27) finished where it had been for most of the regular season: fourth.

"The West is so deep," Kevin Durant said. "It goes down to the last game of the season to really paint that playoff picture. That tells a lot about how good the West is and how good the league is."

The Thunder's first round opponent is Denver. The best-of-seven series begins with the first two games in Oklahoma City, which owns the homecourt edge. The Northwest Division rivals met four times during the season, with the Thunder winning three, including twice recently in less than a week.
